How do I register for a Garena account?

Getting an account to play in Garena is easy and free! Click here to register. Read, understand and accept the User End License Agreement, then fill up your account information.

What is the “Username”, “Password”, and “Email” for?

Username is your name  in Garena and all GG Game services. You will use this Username to log in to Garena, GG Game forums, websites, and other services. This is case sensitive and will appear accordingly.

Password is required for you to enter whenever trying to log in to any GG Game services including Garena. Passwords are also case sensitive. Do not share your password to anyone and do not use passwords that can be easily guessed (example: 123456)

Other optional information include enabling your account security question for logging in to web services, this is another added protection against possible hack.

Why can’t I register with some account names?

The account name you are trying to create may be registered before by another user or the account name is not in valid format. Please try a different account name.

Why didn’t I receive any validation / activation notice in the email I registered?

After registering for an account, you can immediately use the account to log in to Garena and play games already. There will be no validation / activation email that will be sent because all accounts are automatically activated upon registration.

Downloading and Installing Garena and its Latest Version Updates
Where can I download the latest version of Garena?

You can download for the latest Garena Install Package in various available language pack from this link.

Why does downloading not start when I clicked on any of the download links?

The links are in FTP (file transfer protocol) format. When you have an existing downloading software (example: Download Accelerator “DAP”, etc), you can directly left-click on any of the links or mirrors. Otherwise, right-click on any link and choose “save target as” or “save link as” to download the file.

How do I install Garena?

After downloading the install package, look for the setup file on the directory where you saved the downloaded file. Run the file and follow the instructions stated in the installer. First, you will be asked to choose the language settings for the software. Then the Software User License Agreement will be shown followed by choosing for the directory and name for the path you want Garena be installed.

By default, a shortcut button for Garena will be added into your desktop, GG Game home page is set as your default start page for your browser, and just after installation Garena and its support site will be loaded. You can manually set and change these settings.

Will Garena automatically download the latest version update?

Every time you log in to Garena, it will immediately check if the version you are running is the latest one. If there is any new update, you will be informed of and a button to prompt Garena to download the version update will be shown. Alternatively, you can manually download the latest version update by getting the zipped file from Garena Update Section in the GG Game forum then extract this file in to your Garena folder.

Connecting to Garena Log-In Servers
Why do I get “Invalid username or password…” when trying to log in to Garena?

Check whether you have correctly typed in the Username and Password. The password is case sensitive and should be inputted as is.

Accounts that are banned to access Garena may also get this message.

Why do I get “log in timed out” when trying to log in to Garena?

This is possibly because the port required to access or connect to the server is blocked or in used by other application. Please check your router and system firewall to make sure Garena and the ports (TCP 7456, UDP 1513) required is in the safelist.

If there is any other application using UDP port 1513, you may not be able to authenticate with the server. It is advised that you first terminate that application.

You can also try to “specify port” when trying to log in to Garena. In the Log-In Menu of Garena, check on “Settings” then check on “Specify Port (for pass firewall)” and input “7456” or “0” then log in.

For users using proxy or is under university or some secured institute, you may also get the log in timed. Please check with the network administrator of your university or institute if they blocked or disabled access to the server.

Why do I get “Server is offline…” when trying to log in to Garena?

Server may temporarily be unavailable or under maintenance. Please check the forum or the staff for updates on the server downtime.

If others are able to connect but you are getting the “server is offline…” message, please check if you can ping to mainsvr.gg-game.com and check if your connection to the server is not blocked.

Why did I get a message “You are banned by system…” when I tried to log in Garena?

Garena scans through the computer for any running cheat/hack software and will automatically ban the account logging in/ logged in to Garena for using these hacks. It is strongly advised not to install any cheating/hacking software (example: WarCraft 3 maphacks) to avoid getting banned by system. Also, for café players, it is advised that user check for any running hack first and close them before logging in to Garena to avoid getting accidentally banned.

Garena Rooms
What are Garena Rooms?

Garena Rooms are where gamers gather and play games with fellow gamers in the same room. This is built with a chat room for users in the same room to interact. Garena Rooms are categorized by Games and by Country/Region.

How do I enter Garena Rooms?

For LAN Games, choose the game you want to play (e.g. Warcraft 3: The Frozen Throne, Counter-Strike, Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, etc), then a list of countries/regions will be shown, select on the region you belong or preferred to play in, then all available rooms under the country/region will be listed.

For Leagues and Tournaments, choose the game you are participating in then the list of available tournament rooms under that game will be shown.

To enter a room, double click on the room name.

Why can’t I enter in some Garena Rooms?

Some rooms may have entry level requirements and if your account does not meet the minimum level required to access the room, you may get the message “Your level is not enough to access this room”.

For some private or tournament rooms, it requires user to type in the correct password in order to be able to join the room.

Why I receive a message “connection timed out” or it just counts down but does not enter in the room?

The room you are trying to enter may be temporarily unavailable or under maintenance, please check or report this in the forum or to any staff.

If others are able to enter the room but you still get the message of “connection timed out”, please try to port forward TCP 8687.

How do I know if the person is indeed an administrator or channel moderator?

In the “Game Room” located in the right tab of Garena, administrators and channel moderators will have their names appear in blue. Administrators or moderators will not ask for your password or any other personal account information, so please do not give these information to anyone even the staff.

What is ping?

Ping determines your connection to a user. User with lower ping means you have faster respond time / connection towards the user. Therefore, you will have a faster and smoother game when playing with users with ping < I > as oppose to users with ping < IIII >. Users with ‘X’ ping means you did not successfully establish connection to the user, you can right click on the username and click “Tunnel” to attempt to get a ping with the user.

Why do I get ‘X’ pings with most/all of the players in the room?

It is possible that your router firewall settings may be blocking or causing the abnormal mass X pings in room. Try opening port TCP 8687 and disable or turn off other peer to peer (p2p) software.

You may also check your connection settings, change your NAT settings from dynamic to NAT or NAPT. If you are behind router, try port forward and try to enable DMZ.

If your status in Garena is “disconnected”, you may need to reconnect to Garena.

Why is my ping ‘N/A’?

It is normal to view your own ping as ‘N/A’. You will only have a ping to other gamers in room but not yourself.

How do I change my icon in the room? Why can’t I use some of the icons?

To change your room icon, click on the “Menu” button found in the bottom right corner of Garena then click on “Change My Icon”.

Some icons may not be available since you may not have reached the required level to use certain icons. For every 10 level you gain, 4 new icons will be available for you to choose.

Why is my level different when I am inside any room under the game “War3 TFT”?

When you are inside any “War3 TFT” rooms (NOT “War3 TFT RPG), the level displayed there is your War3 1v1 ladder level and not the standard EXP level.

What does the chat or sword icon in the “Game Room” tab represent?

Gamers who have not yet started or loaded the game from Garena will have the “chat” icon. Gamers who have started the game or are playing the game in Garena will have the “cross-sword” icon.

Why do I get the message “Sorry, you send message too fast…” while chatting?

You may get this message when you are sending multiple messages in a short span of time, or you are typing the same message continuously. It is strongly discouraged that user spam in the chat room.

How do I find someone in the room?

A quick way to find a user in the room will be to type in “/find USERNAME” and then Send. The system will then scan through the list of gamers in the room and respond back with the link to the gamer you are looking for.

In the “Game Room” tab, you can also click on “UserName” category to sort the user names in the room. Levels, pings, clans and other categories are also sortable, please click on the category name to sort it.

How can I whisper a message to someone in a room?

To whisper to a user in the same room, type in “/w USERNAME YOUR_MESSAGE” and then Send. Whisper message won’t open up any 1:1 chat box but instead will appear as a highlighted message in the main chat room.

How can I disable a stranger from messaging me?

To block strange from messaging you, go to “Settings” then click on “System Setting” tab. Check on “Filter Stranger Message” and then click on “Apply” or “OK”.

What is “Save Log” and “Clear” for?

The “Save Log” button can be used for you to save all chat logs made in the main room chat to a text document.

The “Clear” button allows you to fully erase and refresh the main chat room.

What is the scrolling text announcement located in the bottom part inside the room?

Those scrolling text announcement are important news broadcasted in all rooms. When you click on the news, it will open up your browser and load up the page the news links to.

Setting Game Paths and Playing Games
What is executable game path?

Executable game path is the .exe game loader file of each game. You need to configure this in Garena Settings to allow Garena to automatically load the game and synchronize with Garena network mechanism.

The following are the standard game executable path:
War3 RPG: war3.exe
War3 TFT: war3.exe
Counter-Strike 1.6: cstrike.exe , hl.exe , hlds.exe , hltv.exe , steam.exe (NOTE: you can use any of the one listed)
Counter-Strike Source: hl2.exe , steam.exe (NOTE: you can use any of the one listed)
Call of Duty 4: iw3mp.exe
Starcraft: starcraft.exe
Dawn of War: w40k.exe
Quake 4: quake4.exe , quake4ded.exe (NOTE: you can use any of the one listed)

How do I configure the game executable path for the games I will play?

When inside a room, click on “Settings” or type in “/settings” in the chat console. Once the settings window is opened, choose the game under Garena Lan Game (NOTE: choose the game that corresponds to the room category you are in, example: click on War3 RPG if you are inside a War3 RPG room).

After selecting the game type, in the Executable Settings, under Game Executable, click on “Browse” to manually locate for the standard game executable path as listed above. Alternatively, you may click on “Search” to allow Garena to automatically scan through and locate for the game path. After the game path is inserted in the Game executable fieled, click on “Apply” then “OK”.

What is the “Normal Mode” and “Enhanced Mode” in the Settings window for?

By default, the Start Mode is set to “Normal Mode” as this is ideally used for normal game play experience. However, for some computer settings under Normal Mode, some users may experience some unusual problems such as unable to connect to LAN of the game, unable to see some host/server. When encountering this problem, you may try to switch from Normal to Enhanced Mode. To do this, simply click on the radio button corresponding to the “Enhanced Mode” then click on “OK”.

What is Game Bootstrap?

Setting up bootstrap enables you to start game in different mode of your preference.

For example, you may put in “-window” under Game Bootstrap to load the game in window mode (NOTE: Not full screen).

How do I start game in Garena?

After setting the game path, click on “Start Game” button that can be found directly above the “Send” button in the chat room or type in “/start” in the chat console.

Why do I receive “The executable you set is not standard… …” when I click on “Start Game”?

This is because the game executable path you have set is not the standard game path identified by Garena. Please refer to the list of standard game path above.

Why do I receive “The executable path of game hasn’t been configured…” when I click on “Start Game”?

Please make sure you have correctly set the game path for the right game and room you are in. (example: Set the game path for War3 RPG if you are inside any War3 RPG rooms, do not set the game path for War3 TFT as it is another game type)

After the game has loaded, what do I do next?

Once the game is loaded (e.g. Warcraft 3, Counterstrike, etc), go to the games’ Multiplayer LAN section. In the LAN, click on the button to start new game/create game/host new game if you want to be the host, or see the list of available hosted games and click on the join button to enter the hosted game.

Why can’t I see any games in the LAN section? Why can’t others see the game I hosted?

Make sure you have the same version of game as all other gamers in the room. In Warcraft 3, gamers using version 1.20 cannot see games hosted by gamers using version 1.21 and vice versa. Therefore it is important to make sure you are using the same version to be able to see each other’s game.

Also check if you have ‘X’ ping with the host of the game, if you have ‘X’ ping then it is most likely that you will be unable to view the game hosted. Try tunneling (Right click user -> Tunnel) the host or users with ‘X’ ping to get a connection.

You may also try to Start Game in “Enhanced Mode” under Settings.

Why does my name in-game appear as my Garena ID even if I changed it to a different name?

Garena has binded your Garena account name to automatically be your in-game name. Therefore, even if you change your name to a different one, other gamers in the same game will still see your name as the original Garena account name.

In the Warcraft 3 LAN, what does “P” and “L” stands for in the list of available LAN game host shown?

“P” represents your ping towards the host.
“L” is the latency between you and the host.

Why do I experience lag in-game?

Make sure you have good ping towards the host (ideally, host with < I > ping). You will experience lag if you are joining a game hosted by someone with very high ping towards you.

Also, while playing games, please do NOT download, use other p2p software, stream videos, and use other high bandwidth consuming application as this may also affect your game play experience.

Why do I sometimes get tabbed-out from game screen when receiving some messages of Garena?

Please do not close Garena window by clicking on the “X” button in the top right corner of Garena. Instead, simply minimize the window.

Also, you may disable strangers from messaging you, disable message alert when playing games, and other message alerts made by system. To do so, go to Garena Settings window, under “System Setting” tab, check on the items you want to enable/disable accordingly.

As a Garena developer, you can play around with all the game-data packets through the plug in program to accompalish your creativity.

The plug in shall be coded in C++ and compiled to become DLL file. The DLL file shall then be copied into the directory , if you have not changed your default installation directory, it shall be under . The plug in will be loaded upon starting Garena.

More details can be found here.

Account Security

How do I protect my account from getting hacked?

Account protection is very important and every user including you should be cautious and responsible to safeguard your own account.

First, you need to use a more complicated and personal password. Password such as “1234” or “abcd” are very easy to guess and hackers may easily log in with your account with that.

You should not also share or give your password to anyone even to any staffs of GG Game and Garena. Please be informed that administrators and other staffs will not ask for your password, and if asked for, please do not give unless it is very necessary or with valid evidence that the person asking for is indeed a real administrator of GG Game and Garena.

When playing in public places such as internet café, university computer labs, etc, in the log-in screen of Garena, do not check on the “Remember Password”. Also do not choose store cookie settings when logging in to GG Game forum and websites.

Try to set your account security question. This will add a verification process when you are attempting to make transactions in the forum or when recovering your account to prevent hackers from easily accessing your account. To add a security question, go to GG Game forum -> Member’s CP -> Edit Profile.

Finally, do not go or open any suspicious or non-official GG Game or Garena websites and forums. These may be potential scam site and may ask you to input your username and password, so please do not go into these non official websites or promotional site.

If my account got hacked or stolen, how can I recover it?

You can use the “Forgot Password” function found in Garena Log-in Screen. Input your account name in the UserName field then click on the “Forgot Password” button to prompt the system automatically send you a new temporary password in your registered account email. Check the inbox of the email you registered for the email containing the password sent by GG Game. After you have logged in to using the new password, go to GG Game forum -> Member’s CP -> Edit Profile and change the password to the one you want to use.

Should you have any difficulty in retrieving your account, please contact any of our staff and provide us with necessary proof that you are the rightful owner of the account.

Can and how will I report hacker to GG Game and Garena Staffs?

You may report hackers in GG Game Forum under Garena sub-forum Report Abusers. First, please log in to the forum using your Garena account name and password and go to Report Abusers forum as stated above. Click on the “New” button to create new thread for your question, in the “Subject” please specify the name of the hacker and his actions (example: “Subject: IamAdmin claims to be admin and ask for PW”). For the message (content) part, you can include the detailed report of the hacker and his actions and include chatlog/screenshot as evidence.

How do I protect my account from getting accidentally banned?

When playing in public places like internet café, university computer labs, and other similar facility, before logging in to Garena, make sure you check first for any running maphack, cheat software that was left opened by the previous users. If you see anything suspicious process running, please end the process.

A safer way would be to restart the computer before logging in to Garena.

If my account got banned, how can I recover it?

When an account is banned by system for using hacks, the only way to reactivate the account is by using the “Ban Appeal Card” sold in GG Shop. The staff cannot manually unban users who are banned by system even if any appeals are made. Therefore, it is strongly advised that user be very cautious and responsible to take care of their account.
